TalkWrite - Award winning software

Designed with the younger user in mind, TalkWrite, the multimedia word processor, won both the NASEN award for the best word processor and a BETT 96 award. Developed in association with The RESOURCE Centre, TalkWrite has been designed for ease of use yet uses standard conventions for text editing. It has all the features you would expect to find in a word processor - word wrap, tabs, choice of fonts and sizes, bold, italic, underline etc.

Button bar

The most frequently used functions can be accessed using a button bar. A complete document can be prepared, edited, saved and printed without recourse to the menu options.

Combine words, pictures and animation

TalkWrite lets you combine words and pictures in a single document. Documents can have one or two columns. In addition to pictures from !Paint and !Draw TalkWrite documents can contain animated pictures from Iota's animator or Ace film files.

Word lists

Groups of words can be put in a word list which can be opened on top of a document.
Click on a word and it will be inserted into the document.
Younger authors may find it helpful to hear a word before deciding if it is the one they want. Click Speak to hear it .

Moving text and pictures

TalkWrite features both Cut & Paste and Drag and Drop for moving both text and pictures. You can work on more than one document at a time and move text and pictures from one to the other.

Spell checker

TalkWrite uses the same powerful spell checker as EasiWriter and TechWriter. All you need to do is click on the spelling button.

The spell checker gives a list of guesses for misspelled words and a Learn button (which can be switched off) lets you add words to the dictionary.

Talking

Research has shown that talking word processors can dramatically improve reading ability. TalkWrite can speak individual words, sentences or the whole document. It will even speak the commentary in an animation or the name of a sprite or drawing.

A pronunciation editor lets you edit the way words sound.

Configurable

TalkWrite can be configured to suit the needs and ability of the user. The button bar can be set to have less commands for those who are beginning word processing. It can be positioned vertically or horizontally. Options like Drag and Drop can be turned off.

TalkWrite comes complete with a manual, written by an ex-teacher, designed to help teachers, support staff and parents.
